Ezra|Esther|Nehemiah - Ezra 9 - July 23, 2026

In the book of Ezra, God inspired the King of Babylon to fulfill prophesy by

rebuilding the House of God in Jerusalem. And the temple had been rededicated.

With this as backdrop Ezra the priest, a direct descendant of Moses’s brother

Aaron, was sent from Babylon to Jerusalem.

But there was a problem. The Jewish people that returned from Babylon had not

changed from being the rebellious sinners that they had been prior to their exile.

The corruption was rampant from the leaders, to the priests, to the teachers, and to

the everyday people. They were intermarrying with the gentiles and openly

worship their gods. They didn’t learn the lesson of their exile.

Needless to say, when Ezra came upon the scene, he was more than distraught.

Ezra 9:4-5 - Then all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the

faithlessness of the returned exiles, gathered around me while I sat appalled until

the evening sacrifice. And at the evening sacrifice I rose from my fasting, with my

garment and my cloak torn, and fell upon my knees and spread out my hands to the

Lord my God.

Ezra prayed for their reconciliation.

This is a warning to us. We cannot run away from our sin and the consequences

without dealing with them. We will fall back to same rut and be in the same

situation.

Remorse says you are sorry but does not do anything to change your heart.

Repentance means acknowledging your sin, confessing it to the Lord, and making

yourself open for the Lord to restore you to a life where it is harder to repetitively

commit the sin.

God rescued us from our sins and removed us from our captivity. If we do sin, we

need to return to fellowship with him, and work to rebuild our relationship.

We do this by studying his word and learning through association with other

Christians.

James 4:8 - Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands,

you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

En el libro de Esdras, Dios inspiró al rey de Babilonia para cumplir la profecía mediante la reconstrucción de la casa de Dios en Jerusalén. Y el templo había sido rededicado. Con esto como trasfondo, Esdras el sacerdote, descendiente directo de Aarón, el hermano de Moisés, fue enviado de Babilonia a Jerusalén.

Pero había un problema. El pueblo judío que había regresado de Babilonia no había cambiado de ser los pecadores rebeldes que habían sido antes de su exilio. La corrupción era desenfrenada, desde los líderes, hasta los sacerdotes, los maestros y la gente común. Se estaban casando con gentiles y adorando abiertamente a sus dioses. No aprendieron la lección de su exilio.

No hace falta decir que, cuando Esdras llegó a la escena, quedó más que angustiado.

Esdras 9:4–5 – Entonces todos los que temblaban ante las palabras del Dios de Israel, a causa de la infidelidad de los exiliados que habían regresado, se reunieron a mi alrededor mientras yo permanecía sentado, horrorizado, hasta el sacrificio de la tarde. Y al sacrificio de la tarde me levanté de mi ayuno, con mi vestido y mi manto rasgados, y caí sobre mis rodillas y extendí mis manos al Señor mi Dios.

Esdras oró por su reconciliación.

Esta es una advertencia para nosotros. No podemos huir de nuestro pecado y de sus consecuencias sin enfrentarlos. Volveremos a caer en la misma rutina y estaremos en la misma situación.

El remordimiento dice que lo sientes, pero no hace nada para cambiar tu corazón.

El arrepentimiento significa reconocer tu pecado, confesarlo al Señor y abrirte para que el Señor te restaure a una vida en la que sea más difícil cometer repetidamente ese pecado.

Dios nos rescató de nuestros pecados y nos sacó de nuestra cautividad. Si pecamos, necesitamos volver a la comunión con Él y trabajar para reconstruir nuestra relación.

Hacemos esto estudiando Su Palabra y aprendiendo por medio de la comunión con otros cristianos.

Santiago 4:8 – Acérquense a Dios, y Él se acercará a ustedes. Limpien sus manos, pecadores, y purifiquen sus corazones, ustedes de doble ánimo.
