Daily Word of Encouragement 6.7.25 - Doug Bishop

Teachings of Jesus - John 14:6 - June 7, 2025 

"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 

Just recently, Adria and I were riding with some friends out to Napa for a concert. As we got a few minutes into the drive, the husband began to ask for directions about which roads he should take. The wife responded with a confused statement, "Why would you ever start driving without figuring out where you are going first?" A light-hearted, entertaining squabble ensued as they figured out the directions "on the fly." It seems silly, but I think this is the way many people approach life, and more specifically, their spiritual lives. People move through life trying to do their best, striving to be a good person, and hoping that in the end, they've done enough to end up in a better place for the afterlife, but never really knowing which path they are on. 

For many people, the singular statement in John 14:6 by Jesus, "I am the way," seems narrowminded and exclusive. However, in reality, for the believer, this should be a confidence-inspiring truth that allows us to know that by simply placing our faith in Jesus, we are on the right track. There's no wondering if we are being good enough or doing enough. Yes, good works should be a result of our faith, but our destination is solidified regardless of what detours our actions may take us on. This is our Blessed Assurance that Jesus is Enough, to quote some song titles. 

My encouragement for today is that you would feel the peace of God in the assurance of your faith through Jesus. We strive for obedience, but knowing that it is only the outward expression of our love for Christ and not the determining factor in our eternal destination. Just as it is a guarantee that "No one comes to the Father except through me." The believer's fate is guaranteed by Christ. "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand." John 10:28 The world may read John 14:6 as a negative, but I pray that we read it and take comfort knowing that Jesus has done everything; we simply need to follow Him.

Enseñanzas de Jesús - Juan 14:6 - 7 de junio de 2025 

«Jesús le dijo: Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida. Nadie viene al Padre sino por mí». Juan 14:6 

Hace poco, Adria y yo íbamos con unos amigos a Napa para asistir a un concierto. A los pocos minutos de empezar el viaje, el marido empezó a preguntar por el camino que debía tomar. La mujer respondió con una frase que denotaba su desconcierto: «¿Cómo se te ocurre salir a conducir sin saber primero adónde vas?». Se produjo una discusión divertida y desenfadada mientras decidían «sobre la marcha» cómo llegar. Parece una tontería, pero creo que así es como mucha gente afronta la vida y, más concretamente, su vida espiritual. Las personas avanzan por la vida tratando de dar lo mejor de sí mismas, esforzándose por ser buenas personas y esperando que, al final, hayan hecho lo suficiente para acabar en un lugar mejor en la otra vida, pero sin saber realmente qué camino están siguiendo. 

Para muchas personas, la singular afirmación de Jesús en Juan 14:6, «Yo soy el camino», parece estrecha de miras y excluyente. Sin embargo, en realidad, para el creyente, esta debería ser una verdad que inspira confianza y nos permite saber que, simplemente depositando nuestra fe en Jesús, estamos en el camino correcto. No hay que preguntarse si estamos siendo lo suficientemente buenos o si estamos haciendo lo suficiente. Sí, las buenas obras deben ser el resultado de nuestra fe, pero nuestro destino está asegurado independientemente de los desvíos que puedan tomar nuestras acciones. Esta es nuestra bendita seguridad de que Jesús es suficiente, por citar algunos títulos de canciones. 

Mi aliento para hoy es que sientas la paz de Dios en la seguridad de tu fe a través de Jesús. Nos esforzamos por ser obedientes, pero sabiendo que es solo la expresión externa de nuestro amor por Cristo y no el factor determinante de nuestro destino eterno. Así como es una garantía que «nadie viene al Padre sino por mí». El destino del creyente está garantizado por Cristo. «Yo les doy vida eterna, y no perecerán jamás, ni nadie las arrebatará de mi mano». Juan 10:28 El mundo puede leer Juan 14:6 como algo negativo, pero yo oro para que lo leamos y nos consolemos sabiendo que Jesús lo ha hecho todo; nosotros solo tenemos que seguirle.
