Ezra|Esther|Nehemiah - Ezra 6:13-22 - June 9, 2026

Ezra 6:16 - “And the people of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the returned exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy.”

As we have read through Ezra, we’ve seen the journey that God’s people have been through in building the temple. In chapter 3, the foundation was laid, but in chapters 4 & 5, we saw progress slow and even come to a halt. But we now come to chapter 6, where the temple has been completed, and the people celebrate and rejoice.

I’m reminded of the history of Hessel Church and the story of those who built our original chapel at the bottom of the hill. A group of local farmers and ranchers, with little extra resources to spare, came together and donated what they could to build the church. They deconstructed old chicken coops and gathered whatever material they could. I’ve heard stories of women spending hours straightening old nails so they could be reused. The struggle was real, the sacrifice was real, but they realized the importance and need to have a place for corporate worship. After completing a project that I’m sure involved real blood, sweat, and tears, I can only imagine the celebration they had at their first worship service inside a real chapel.

But I’m also convicted. How often do I go to church on Sunday, attend an event on our campuses, and give no thought to the blessing of having a physical church home? Yes, I’ve been a part of building projects and seen the church grow, but at what level of real sacrifice? In the Old Testament, the Israelites provided everything needed to build the temple. What a blessing we have in our church, and I pray that we don’t take it for granted. This is our temple, and it’s our responsibility to be faithful with what God has entrusted to us so that it can be used for generations to come.

I encourage you, next time you are on a Hessel campus, take a moment to thank God for what He has blessed us with. These are Holy places given to us by God to be used for His glory. I pray that we as “Hesselonians” are faithful to God’s call and are generously giving to the work of His ministry.

Esdras 6:16 – “Y los hijos de Israel, los sacerdotes, los levitas y el resto de los exiliados que habían regresado, celebraron con gozo la dedicación de esta casa de Dios”.

A medida que hemos leído Esdras, hemos visto el camino que el pueblo de Dios recorrió en la construcción del templo. En el capítulo 3 se colocó el fundamento, pero en los capítulos 4 y 5 vimos que el progreso se hizo lento e incluso llegó a detenerse. Pero ahora llegamos al capítulo 6, donde el templo ha sido terminado, y el pueblo celebra y se regocija.

Me viene a la mente la historia de Hessel Church y la historia de quienes construyeron nuestra capilla original al pie de la colina. Un grupo de agricultores y rancheros locales, con pocos recursos de sobra, se unieron y donaron lo que pudieron para construir la iglesia. Desarmaron viejos gallineros y reunieron cualquier material que pudieron encontrar. He escuchado historias de mujeres que pasaban horas enderezando clavos viejos para poder reutilizarlos. La lucha fue real, el sacrificio fue real, pero entendieron la importancia y la necesidad de tener un lugar para la adoración congregacional. Después de terminar un proyecto que estoy seguro involucró verdadera sangre, sudor y lágrimas, solo puedo imaginar la celebración que tuvieron en su primer servicio de adoración dentro de una capilla real.

Pero también me siento confrontado. ¿Con qué frecuencia voy a la iglesia un domingo, asisto a un evento en nuestros campus, y no pienso en la bendición de tener un hogar físico como iglesia? Sí, he sido parte de proyectos de construcción y he visto crecer a la iglesia, pero ¿con qué nivel de sacrificio real? En el Antiguo Testamento, los israelitas proveyeron todo lo necesario para construir el templo. Qué bendición tenemos en nuestra iglesia, y oro para que no la demos por sentado. Este es nuestro templo, y es nuestra responsabilidad ser fieles con lo que Dios nos ha confiado, para que pueda ser usado por las generaciones venideras.

Te animo a que la próxima vez que estés en un campus de Hessel, tomes un momento para agradecer a Dios por lo que nos ha dado. Estos son lugares santos que Dios nos ha entregado para ser usados para Su gloria. Oro para que nosotros, como “hesselonianos”, seamos fieles al llamado de Dios y demos generosamente para la obra de Su ministerio.
