Being a Healthy Christian - Romans 12:1-2 - July 2, 2026

I have loved Romans 12:1-2 for many years. I love how straightforward it is, teaching us "to offer (our) bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is (our) spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will."

One who responds in loving willingness to these words wants to be transformed, to be unlike the "regular folks" among whom we live. When we become a "living sacrifice", we consider ourselves to have been crucified with Christ, living now by faith in Him.* We "die daily"**. We "count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus…" *** We seek to be holy in all things, living to please God.

These words describe a Christian who recognizes "the pattern of this world" as unacceptable and refuses to conform or "go along to get along." Recognizing the sinful bent of one's own mind, this person deeply desires to be "transformed by the renewing of (their) mind", accomplished by spending daily time in God's Word and prayer, attending church consistently, and fellowshipping with other Believers. Not just playing games together, but sharing blessings from God's Word, seeking to promote this kind of life in each other.

We give lip service to seeking and following God's will. But do we, really? If we're honest, we want to live, laugh, love! God's will ("His good, pleasing and perfect will") is quite often diametrically opposed to ours. When we "test and approve" (discern and delight in) God's will, we find that He wants us to die to our life's "want list" so that He can have full access to our lives – to live His life out through us! When that is happening, we are not even noticed. It's God who gains the attention of those around us. What a way to live! Right?

Durante muchos años he amado Romanos 12:1–2.

¿Verdad?
