Daily Word of Encouragement 7.3.25 - Todd Baker

Identity in Christ - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - July 3, 2025 

"Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit WHO IS IN YOU, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 

Every Christian has the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9). Here are some of the benefits that we receive from this indwelling. The Holy Spirit is our helper, counselor, and teacher. He brings back to our remembrance things that He has taught us, and He offers us guidance as we walk through our daily life. (John 14:16 and 25-26/John 16:13) All this being said, there are times when we quench or ignore these benefits because we either think that we know what is best, or we just plain don't want to follow the Holy Spirit's teaching and guidance. 

In 1902, Adelaide Pollard was in the midst of sorrow. God had closed the door on her desire to be a foreign missionary. Amid her grief, she wrote the words to what became the hymn, "Have Thine Own Way Lord." The following are the words from verses one and four 

"Have Thine own way Lord, have Thine own way   

Thou art the Potter, I am the clay   

Mold me and make me, after Thy will   

While I am waiting, yielding and still"   

"Have Thine Own Way Lord, have Thine own way   

Hold o'er my being absolute sway   

Fill with Thy Spirit, til all shall see   

Christ only, always, living in me" 

I have sung that hymn many times through the years, but until recently, I had not truly focused on the spiritual impact of what Adelaide felt as she wrote those two verses. The following is my summary.   

* Even though God had closed the door to her becoming a foreign missionary, she was still totally open to what He had for her moving forward. 

* Her way of expressing this openness to God's guidance was expressed in her desire to be clay on His potter's wheel; molded however He pleased. 

* Her final desire was to be so totally submitted to the Spirit's guidance that when people saw her, they would see Christ, not because of her, but because of the Spirit that lived within her.   

So what about you? Do you desire to have God put you on His potter's wheel so that He can mold you into His will, or are you currently quenching the Spirit and rationalizing your actions? 

Palabra diaria de aliento basada en la lectura de hoy     

Identidad en Cristo - 1 Corintios 6:19-20 - 3 de julio de 2025 

«¿No sabéis que vuestro cuerpo es templo del Espíritu Santo, que está en vosotros, el cual tenéis de Dios, y que no sois vuestros? Porque habéis sido comprados por precio; glorificad, pues, a Dios en vuestro cuerpo». 1 Corintios 6:19-20 

Todo cristiano tiene la morada de Dios, el Espíritu Santo (Romanos 8:9). Estas son algunas de las bendiciones que recibimos por tenerlo morando en nosotros. El Espíritu Santo es nuestro ayudador, consejero y maestro. Nos recuerda las cosas que nos ha enseñado y nos guía en nuestro caminar diario. (Juan 14:16 y 25-26/Juan 16:13) Dicho esto, hay momentos en los que apagamos o ignoramos estos beneficios porque pensamos que sabemos lo que es mejor, o simplemente no queremos seguir las enseñanzas y la guía del Espíritu Santo. 

En 1902, Adelaide Pollard se encontraba sumida en la tristeza. Dios había cerrado la puerta a su deseo de ser misionera en el extranjero. En medio de su dolor, escribió la letra de lo que se convertiría en el himno «Have Thine Own Way Lord» (Haz tu voluntad, Señor). A continuación se muestran las palabras de los versos uno y cuatro. 

«Haz tu voluntad, Señor, haz tu voluntad 

Tú eres el alfarero, yo soy el barro 

Moldeame y hazme según tu voluntad 

Mientras espero, rendida y tranquila». 

«Haz lo que quieras, Señor, haz lo que quieras 

Toma el control absoluto de mi ser 

Lléname con tu Espíritu, hasta que todos vean 

solo a Cristo, siempre, viviendo en mí». 

He cantado ese himno muchas veces a lo largo de los años, pero hasta hace poco no me había centrado realmente en el impacto espiritual de lo que Adelaide sintió al escribir esos dos versos. El siguiente es mi resumen. 

* Aunque Dios le había cerrado la puerta para convertirse en misionera en el extranjero, ella seguía totalmente abierta a lo que Él tenía para ella en el futuro. 

* Su forma de expresar esta apertura a la guía de Dios se manifestaba en su deseo de ser arcilla en el torno del alfarero, moldeada como Él quisiera. 

* Su deseo final era estar tan totalmente sometida a la guía del Espíritu que cuando la gente la viera, viera a Cristo, no por ella, sino por el Espíritu que vivía en ella. 

¿Y tú? ¿Deseas que Dios te ponga en su torno de alfarero para que te moldee según su voluntad, o estás apagando al Espíritu y racionalizando tus acciones?
