Praying in the Psalms - Psalm 121 - August 31, 2025 

Psalm 121: 2, 5, 7: "The Lord is your helper, keeper, and protector" 

When I was in high school in the Yakima Valley of Washington state, I enjoyed going hunting and fishing. In the fall months, I would go pheasant and duck hunting. To give the ducks some protection from hunters, the Washington State Game Commission set aside several game reserves; parcels of land where ducks could hunker down, find refuge, and protection from hunters like me. Most of the ducks were intelligent and appeared to be aware of the boundaries of the reserves. When they were flying out, and came to the reserve fence, they would fly up out of range of shotguns. But that being said, I found that if I hid just outside the fence, I would get a few shots at the "Dumb Ducks," who didn't know the parameters of the boundaries.   

In Psalm 121, Psalm 18, and Psalm 144, we find verses that list things God is to us and does for us. Here is the list. He is our keeper, our guard, our helper, our fortress, our stronghold, our deliverer, our shield, our strength, our rock, and OUR REFUGE. Many of these fall under the category of God's protection over us.   

Two takeaways from this list. We should be thankful to God and enjoy all that He is to us and all that He provides for us. On the flip side, we need to be especially careful not to stray away from God's protective boundaries and into the range of Satan's shotguns.

Orar con los salmos - Salmo 121 - 31 de agosto de 2025 

Salmo 121: 2, 5, 7: «El Señor es tu ayudador, tu guardián y tu protector». 

Cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria en el valle de Yakima, en el estado de Washington, me gustaba ir de caza y pesca. En los meses de otoño, iba a cazar faisanes y patos. Para proteger a los patos de los cazadores, la Comisión de Caza del Estado de Washington reservó varias reservas de caza, parcelas de tierra donde los patos podían refugiarse y protegerse de cazadores como yo. La mayoría de los patos eran inteligentes y parecían conocer los límites de las reservas. Cuando salían volando y llegaban a la valla de la reserva, volaban fuera del alcance de las escopetas. Pero, dicho esto, descubrí que si me escondía justo fuera de la valla, podía disparar varias veces a los «patos tontos», que no conocían los límites de la reserva. 

En el Salmo 121, el Salmo 18 y el Salmo 144, encontramos versículos que enumeran lo que Dios es para nosotros y lo que hace por nosotros. Aquí está la lista. Él es nuestro guardián, nuestro protector, nuestro ayudador, nuestra fortaleza, nuestro baluarte, nuestro libertador, nuestro escudo, nuestra fuerza, nuestra roca y NUESTRO REFUGIO. Muchas de estas cosas entran en la categoría de la protección de Dios sobre nosotros.   

Dos conclusiones de esta lista. Debemos estar agradecidos a Dios y disfrutar de todo lo que Él es para nosotros y de todo lo que nos proporciona. Por otro lado, debemos tener especial cuidado de no alejarnos de los límites protectores de Dios y entrar en el alcance de las escopetas de Satanás.
