The Book of Hebrews - Hebrews 2:10-18 - August 5, 2026

Jesus is perfectly qualified to be our High Priest, our only founder and source of salvation.

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. (v.17-18)

The account of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness by Satan can be found in; Matt.4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13 and Luke 4:1-13. Jesus was tempted, as we are today, in every aspect of life. As John records …  “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.” (1 Jn.2:16)

We see that the chief antagonist, Satan himself, tempted Jesus with “lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the boastful pride of life.” Yet, our only  founder and source of salvation remained sinless and pure from these temptations.

For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. (v.10-11)

Because Jesus was victorious in the direct, overt temptations of Satan; because Jesus was victorious on the cross; and because Jesus was victorious over the grave … praise God, we can have victory in salvation through it’s only Source … JESUS! We can be a recipient of His help … “he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Cor.10:13)

Jesús está perfectamente calificado para ser nuestro Sumo Sacerdote, nuestro único fundador y fuente de salvación.

Por tanto, tenía que ser hecho semejante a Sus hermanos en todo, para llegar a ser un Sumo Sacerdote misericordioso y fiel en el servicio de Dios, a fin de hacer propiciación por los pecados del pueblo. Pues por cuanto Él mismo padeció siendo tentado, es poderoso para ayudar a los que son tentados (vv. 17–18).

El relato de la tentación de Jesús en el desierto por Satanás se encuentra en Mateo 4:1–11, Marcos 1:12–13 y Lucas 4:1–13. Jesús fue tentado, como nosotros lo somos hoy, en todo aspecto de la vida. Como registra Juan: “Porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, la pasión de la carne, la pasión de los ojos y la arrogancia de la vida, no proviene del Padre, sino del mundo” (1 Juan 2:16).

Vemos que el principal antagonista, Satanás mismo, tentó a Jesús con “la pasión de los ojos, la pasión de la carne y la arrogancia de la vida”. Sin embargo, nuestro único fundador y fuente de salvación permaneció sin pecado y puro frente a estas tentaciones.

Porque convenía que Aquel por quien y para quien existen todas las cosas, al llevar muchos hijos a la gloria, perfeccionara por medio del sufrimiento al fundador de la salvación de ellos. Porque el que santifica y los que son santificados, todos tienen un mismo origen (vv. 10–11).

Porque Jesús fue victorioso frente a las tentaciones directas y manifiestas de Satanás; porque Jesús fue victorioso en la cruz; y porque Jesús fue victorioso sobre la tumba… alabado sea Dios, podemos tener victoria en la salvación por medio de su única Fuente: ¡JESÚS! Podemos recibir Su ayuda: “Él es poderoso para ayudar a los que son tentados”.

“Ninguna tentación los ha alcanzado que no sea común a los hombres. Fiel es Dios, y no permitirá que ustedes sean tentados más allá de lo que puedan soportar, sino que con la tentación proveerá también la vía de escape, para que puedan resistirla” (1 Corintios 10:13).
