Praying in the Psalms - Psalm 42 - August 6, 2025 

OK … so you are reading your devotion for the day. Are you ready for prayer and worship? Let’s get warmed up. Read the following passages from Psalms, which have inspired many songs of worship and prayer. Read each one, pause, close your eyes, and repeat those same words in prayer to the Lord. 

8:1 - O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! 

18:3 - I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised … 

18:46 - The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation 

19:14 - Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. 

26:2 - Prove me, O LORD, and try me; test my heart and my mind. 

34:8 - Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 

37:7 - Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; 

39:4 - O LORD, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! 

40:3 - He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. 

So … are you warmed up? Those are all passages from the Psalms of “Book One.” This leads us to “Book Two,” which begins with our passage for today, Psalm 42.  

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. (v 1-2). 

This time of devotion each day allows each one of us to call on our God in prayer and worship. We recognize our humanity, our failures, our struggles, our triumphs, our joy, our hope in the Lord. Each of these reflects the hearts of the authors of the Psalms, as they poured out their deepest emotions.  

So, this devotion time is a refreshing of the soul, as the deer who pants for cool streams of water. So, bask in the moment of refreshing today, allowing the Holy Spirit to calm your heart to prepare for a day of opportunities. 

Palabra diaria de aliento basada en la lectura de hoy     

Orando en los Salmos - Salmo 42 - 6 de agosto de 2025 

Bien... estás leyendo tu devocional del día. ¿Estás listo para orar y adorar? Vamos a calentar. Lee los siguientes pasajes de los Salmos, que han inspirado muchas canciones de adoración y oración. Lee cada uno, haz una pausa, cierra los ojos y repite esas mismas palabras en oración al Señor. 

8:1 - ¡Oh Señor, Señor nuestro, cuán grande es tu nombre en toda la tierra! 

18:3 - Invoco al Señor, que es digno de alabanza... 

18:46 - El Señor vive, bendita sea mi roca, y exaltado sea el Dios de mi salvación. 

19:14 - Sean gratos los dichos de mi boca y la meditación de mi corazón delante de ti, oh Señor, roca mía y redentor mío. 

26:2 - Pruébame, oh Señor, y examíname; prueba mi corazón y mi mente. 

34:8 - ¡Prueben y vean que el Señor es bueno! ¡Dichoso el hombre que se refugia en él! 

37:7 - Quédate tranquilo ante el Señor y espéralo con paciencia. 

39:4 - Oh Señor, hazme saber mi fin y cuál es la medida de mis días; ¡hazme saber cuán fugaz soy! 

40:3 - Puso en mi boca un cántico nuevo, un cántico de alabanza a nuestro Dios. 

Entonces... ¿estás listo? Todos esos son pasajes del «Libro Uno» de los Salmos. Esto nos lleva al «Libro Segundo», que comienza con nuestro pasaje de hoy, el Salmo 42. 

Como el ciervo brama por las corrientes de agua, así clama por ti, oh Dios, mi alma. Mi alma tiene sed de Dios, del Dios vivo. (v. 1-2). 

Este momento de devoción diario nos permite a cada uno de nosotros invocar a nuestro Dios en oración y adoración. Reconocemos nuestra humanidad, nuestros fracasos, nuestras luchas, nuestros triunfos, nuestra alegría, nuestra esperanza en el Señor. Cada uno de ellos refleja el corazón de los autores de los Salmos, que derramaron sus emociones más profundas. 

Así pues, este tiempo de devoción es un refresco para el alma, como el ciervo que ansía las corrientes de agua fresca. Disfruta del momento de refresco de hoy, dejando que el Espíritu Santo calme tu corazón para prepararte para un día lleno de oportunidades.
