The Gospel of Luke - Luke 10 - September 13, 2025

 Luke 10:2 "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few."  Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world and preach the gospel"

 When I looked at my devotion assignment sheet, I saw that my first assigned devotion for September was to be from Luke Chapter 10.  When I read through the chapter, I concluded that there was enough spiritual meat in this chapter for Pastor Rich to create eight sermons.  As I asked God to guide me to the section of Luke 10 that he had for my devotion, my mind immediately went to verse 2.  "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few."  I believe that this verse is telling us that many unbelievers are on the broad road that leads to hell, and not enough of us believers are sharing the good news that could move them off of the wide road and onto the narrow road that leads to heaven.

 There are many ways for us to have a part in unbelievers coming to salvation; some are indirect, and some are direct. 

 Here are some of the indirect ways:

 * Praying for God to open the spiritual hearts of our unsaved family, friends, and neighbors

* Giving money to missionaries and organizations like the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to help finance evangelism

* Inviting unsaved neighbors and friends to church, and children to VBS

* Wearing a Christian fish pin or sweatshirt with a verse, which may lead to a spiritual conversation

* Joining the Gideons and helping pass out new testaments

Directly sharing the gospel message isn't just the responsibility of pastors and evangelists.  It is the responsibility of all of us.  

 Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

 Here is an example of how indirect and direct evangelism blend.  Jim and Sally, who live in Chicago, have been praying for years for their unsaved friend Marcy, who lives in Sebastopol.  Janice, who lives in Sebastopol, invites and brings Marcy to the Hessel Church Easter service.  At the end of his sermon, Pastor Rich invites unbelievers to trust Jesus as their savior.  Marcy is one of the people who responds.  Although Pastor Rich is the one who outwardly led Marcy to the Lord, I believe that in God's eyes, Jim, Sally, Janice, and Pastor Rich all shared equally in Marcy's coming to salvation.  

 I am going to end this devotion with an analogy that I shared in a devotion a few years ago, but it is worth sharing again.  You live in a small valley town that has a river running through it. There is a dam across the river at the edge of town.  Your best friend is the dam superintendent.  One morning, you receive a frantic call from him informing you that there are cracks forming in the dam, and that within 20 minutes, the dam will break, and the water behind it will flood the town, killing many people.  You have a choice.  You can quietly gather up your family and drive out of town, or you can start calling people as fast as you can, warning them of the coming disaster.  

 Challenge:  Each of you knows the gospel message that, if believed, will move people off the pathway to hell and onto the pathway to heaven.  Are you going to keep this message to yourself, or are you going to share it with the lost? The decision is yours.

 Lucas 10:2 «La mies es mucha, pero los obreros pocos».  Marcos 16:15 «Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio».

 Cuando miré mi hoja de tareas devocionales, vi que mi primera tarea devocional asignada para septiembre era del capítulo 10 de Lucas. Cuando leí el capítulo, llegué a la conclusión de que había suficiente contenido espiritual en este capítulo para que el pastor Rich creara ocho sermones. Cuando le pedí a Dios que me guiara a la sección de Lucas 10 que tenía para mi devoción, mi mente se dirigió inmediatamente al versículo 2.  «La mies es mucha, pero los obreros pocos». Creo que este versículo nos dice que muchos incrédulos están en el camino ancho que conduce al infierno, y que no hay suficientes creyentes que compartan las buenas nuevas que podrían sacarlos del camino ancho y llevarlos al camino estrecho que conduce al cielo.

 Hay muchas maneras en las que podemos contribuir a que los no creyentes alcancen la salvación; algunas son indirectas y otras directas.

 Estas son algunas de las formas indirectas:

 * Orar para que Dios abra los corazones espirituales de nuestros familiares, amigos y vecinos no salvos.

* Donar dinero a misioneros y organizaciones como la Asociación Evangelística Billy Graham para ayudar a financiar la evangelización.

* Invitar a vecinos y amigos no salvos a la iglesia, y a los niños a la Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones.

* Llevar un pin cristiano con un pez o una sudadera con un versículo, lo que puede dar lugar a una conversación espiritual.

* Unirse a los Gedeones y ayudar a repartir nuevos testamentos.

Compartir directamente el mensaje del evangelio no es solo responsabilidad de los pastores y evangelistas. Es responsabilidad de todos nosotros.

 Marcos 16:15 «Id por todo el mundo y predicad el evangelio a toda criatura».

 He aquí un ejemplo de cómo se combinan la evangelización indirecta y la directa.  Jim y Sally, que viven en Chicago, llevan años orando por su amiga no creyente Marcy, que vive en Sebastopol.  Janice, que vive en Sebastopol, invita a Marcy y la lleva al servicio de Pascua de la iglesia Hessel.  Al final de su sermón, el pastor Rich invita a los no creyentes a confiar en Jesús como su salvador.  Marcy es una de las personas que responde.  Aunque el pastor Rich es quien llevó a Marcy al Señor de manera externa, creo que, a los ojos de Dios, Jim, Sally, Janice y el pastor Rich compartieron por igual la salvación de Marcy. 

 Voy a terminar esta devoción con una analogía que compartí en una devoción hace unos años, pero que vale la pena compartir de nuevo. Vives en un pequeño pueblo en un valle por el que discurre un río. Hay una presa que cruza el río en las afueras del pueblo. Tu mejor amigo es el superintendente de la presa. Una mañana, recibes una llamada frenética de él informándote de que se están formando grietas en la presa y que, en 20 minutos, la presa se romperá y el agua que hay detrás inundará el pueblo, matando a mucha gente. Tienes una elección.  Puedes reunir discretamente a tu familia y salir del pueblo en coche, o puedes empezar a llamar a la gente lo más rápido posible para advertirles del desastre que se avecina.  

 Reto:  Cada uno de vosotros conoce el mensaje del Evangelio que, si se cree, alejará a las personas del camino al infierno y las llevará al camino al cielo.  ¿Vas a guardar este mensaje para ti mismo o vas a compartirlo con los perdidos? La decisión es tuya.
