The Kingdom of God - Isaiah 11:1-10 - September 13, 2026
Lord and Father, as we open your Word and meditate on its riches, please guide our minds towards the glorious kingdom of heaven, where You shine on all. Thank you for allowing us to be part of this kingdom, that compare to no other. Amen.
The Reformation Study Bible offers a sentence that connects beautifully with this month’s theme: “David inaugurated a great kingdom, but the greater David, now only a tender plant, will rule an incomparably greater kingdom.” In Isaiah 11:1–10, we see the beginning of Christ’s glorious kingdom.
Christ’s perfect kingdom began humbly, yet this passage reveals the universal reach it will one day have. Jesse was the father of King David, and through David’s royal line our Lord Jesus would come (Matt. 1). This whole passage points us to Him.
Isaiah shows us three glorious qualities of Christ’s kingdom:
Divine power (vv. 2–3)
Absolute justice (vv. 3–5)
Perfect peace (vv. 6–9)
The passage then reaches its pinnacle with the glorious spread of the gospel to every corner of the earth. The King who came as a Servant will one day reign openly over His sovereign kingdom, and all nations will recognize His Lordship.
Verse 10 state: “Then it will be in that day, that the nations will seek the root of Jesse, who will stand as a standard for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.”
Now consider this: You and I are part of His kingdom. The eternal, glorious kingdom of the Holy One should be the most exclusive kingdom in human history. Yet God, through Jesus, freely offers us a place in it.
In this kingdom, we receive eternal life and are invited to worship and love God forever as He radiates divine power, absolute justice, and perfect peace. It may seem hard to believe, but through Christ it is not only possible—it is already accomplished. His kingdom has already begun.
So, have you heard the call to join Christ’s perfect and glorious kingdom?
