The Kingdom of God - Luke 19:11-27 - September 22, 2026

In Luke 19:11-27, Jesus is speaking to people who were convinced “the kingdom of God was going to appear at once”. This passage is about a nobleman who entrusted his servants with a specific amount of money (worth about 100 days’ wages) to be invested for him. He went away to be crowned king and promised to return, but didn’t say how long he would be gone.

Just as it is with people today, some were faithful to use wisely what was entrusted to them and some considered the Master harsh and unworthy of their energy to invest his money for him.

God has entrusted to people certain gifts to be invested in His kingdom until He returns or as long as they live. Those who have been given faith to trust this Master proceed to invest His gifts (talents, abilities, time, love) for Him and watch them multiply as God intends.

Those who are unfaithful in that responsibility communicate an inaccurate perspective of the Master; they don’t know Him or trust Him. They really have no desire, nor any idea of how, to invest in Him and His kingdom.

This is a principle of wide application: when someone refuses to use wisely what has been given, the gift will be taken away. Those who use their spiritual opportunities are given increasing opportunities. Those who do nothing with what God has given will lose it.

By this story we are warned to remain faithful to the Lord, even if it takes a long time for His kingdom to come in its fullness.
