The Kingdom of God - 1 Corinthians 15:50-58 - September 29, 2026

1 Corinthians 15:51-52  & 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 - "Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we all will be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and  the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord."

In the early 70's I was on the pastoral staff at the Santa Rosa Bible Church.  At that time it seemed like everyone was studying or discussing end times, and especially the rapture. In January 1972 a new Christian movie called, "Thief in the Night," was released.  Our church rented it, and showed it at a Sunday night service. The movie showed things like a man mowing his lawn, and disappearing; leaving the lawn mower still moving. and a pilot flying a commercial airliner also disappearing; leaving the co-pilot wondering what had happened. When it was over I remember thinking, "The rapture certainly is right around the corner.  In 2026 I still believe that it is just around the corner.

The possibility of not having to die, but being instantaneously lifted off of this earth to meet the Lord in the air, and then to be ushered home to heaven still excites me.  From a human perspective it is logical to believe that when unbelievers, who have heard the plan of salvation but rejected it, see the reality of the rapture, they will say to themselves, "Those Christians were telling me the truth; now I will believe."  But that won't be the case.  Although many people will be saved during the seven year tribulation, it won't be any of those people.  2 Thessalonians 2:7-11 tells us that once Christians, and their indwelling Holy Spirit, are gone, God will send those who heard, and rejected the gospel a deluding influence (strong delusion KJV) so that they will believe the lies of antichrist.

So, the bottom line is this:  Since unbelievers who have heard the gospel and rejected it, won't get a second chance to be saved after the rapture or after they die, personal evangelism should be the passion of our lives.  Why?  Because we know the good news regarding the greatest gift ever offered; news that can change their eternity from being tormented day and night in the Lake of Fire, to spending eternity with God FOREVER!!!
