The Kingdom of God - Genesis 12:1-9 - September 3, 2026
God told Abram to go (12:1); God made a promise (12:2-3), so Abram went (12:4). I want to say that I make decisions like Abram did, by listening to God and then just doing what He says or advises. But, alas, I am not that way. I ask questions, I second-guess if it’s the right path, I might even ask God if He wants to change His mind. But not Abram. Abram probably had his doubts at first too; making him a great nation might have sounded pretty lofty. Abram was only one man; how could he be a father to so many?
Abram knew God and trusted Him wholeheartedly. God knew the kind of servant Abram was and gave him a calling that fit who he was, a man of God who would be the father of a great nation. God has given all of us a calling too. Through that calling, He wants to bless us and make us a blessing to others. He wants to stand up for us against our enemies. But we have to let Him in first, to really let Him in. I struggle with this; I choose to confess and ask forgiveness for things that I’m ready for. Not the things I really struggle with. Abram wasn’t afraid of trusting God with everything, and God gave him great nations and blessings because of it.
If there’s one takeaway I want you to have, it’s to know that God wants to bless you. Are you letting Him in so that He can? So that you can help build the kingdom of God?
