The Kingdom of God - Exodus 19:1-6 - September 5, 2026

Exodus 19:4-6 - You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' (v.4-6)

God has saved the Israelites from the enslavement of the Egyptians, and after three months, they are brought to the mountain of God, Mount Sinai. These verses are the foundational text where God establishes the blueprint for His kingdom on Earth, offering a covenant: If they obey Him, they will become His special treasure, a holy nation, and a kingdom of priests.

God first reminds Israel of His rescue from Egypt ("eagles' wings") before giving any rules, showing that the kingdom begins with grace and deliverance. Israel is then called to be a "kingdom of priests." A priest stands between God and others. Israel's role was to represent God to the rest of the world and bring the nations to Him. Being "holy" means being set apart. Israel was meant to live by God's rules so different nations could see what life looks like under God's direct rule.

The New Testament applies this exact passage to the church in 1 Peter 2:9-10. "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."

And in Revelation 5:9-10, "And they sang a new song, saying,

"Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals,

for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth."

In Exodus 19, Israel's relationship to God was predicated on "If they obey Him." The verses of 1 Peter 2 and Revelation 5 are predicated on our own belief in the Son of God. (Rom.10:9) "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Other "if" verses that are true for the believer:

Matt.16:24 - If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Jn.6:51 - I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."

Jn.7:37 - If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

Jn.13:35 - By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

Jn.14:15 - If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Thank you, Lord, that our simple act of faith and belief in You brings us into the Kingdom of God. Thank you for this gift of eternal life with You, and no matter how long our earthly life is, we have an eternity with a loving Father. Amen.

a personas de toda tribu, lengua, pueblo y nación;

Juan 14:15 – Si me aman, guardarán Mis mandamientos.
