The Gospel of Luke - Luke 5 - September 7, 2025

 "And Jesus answered them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance." Luke 5:31-32

 It's interesting to see the diverse list of people that Jesus interacts with here in Luke 5. Members of the fishing village near Gennesaret, fisherman Simon, James, and John, a man with leprosy, a man who was paralyzed, friends of the paralyzed man, Pharisees, lawyers, and tax collectors. The full spectrum of society is represented, from the outcasts to those who held lofty and powerful positions of authority. Members of the hard-working middle class, to the often despised and corrupt tax collectors. Jesus speaks to them all.

 I wonder how often we put the saving power of Jesus in a box? Probably not intentionally, but would our actions imply that we believe Jesus is only for certain people? Would our attitude towards some people imply that we think they "are too far gone" or "they would never become a Christian?"

 Jesus came to save the lost, sick, and broken of this world. Let us not forget that it includes us! It's easier to share and love people that we are close to. But is God calling you to reach out to someone He has placed in your life that might be a little more difficult? A coworker, a neighbor, a friend, or a family member with whom there might be a strained relationship.

 My prayer this morning is that we would have faith that would take us beyond a middle-class gospel. That we would recognize, believe, and act in the true power of the gospel, which can seek and save all who are lost. Jesus himself went beyond all social norms. I pray that we would as well.

El Evangelio de Lucas - Lucas 5 - 7 de septiembre de 2025

 «Y Jesús les respondió: Los que están sanos no necesitan médico, sino los enfermos. No he venido a llamar a justos, sino a pecadores al arrepentimiento». Lucas 5:31-32

 Es interesante ver la diversa lista de personas con las que Jesús interactúa aquí en Lucas 5. Miembros de la aldea pesquera cerca de Gennesaret, el pescador Simón, Santiago y Juan, un hombre con lepra, un hombre paralítico, amigos del paralítico, fariseos, abogados y recaudadores de impuestos. Está representado todo el espectro de la sociedad, desde los marginados hasta los que ocupaban puestos de autoridad elevados y poderosos. Desde los miembros de la clase media trabajadora hasta los recaudadores de impuestos, a menudo despreciados y corruptos. Jesús les habla a todos ellos.

 Me pregunto cuántas veces ponemos el poder salvador de Jesús en una caja. Probablemente no sea de forma intencionada, pero ¿nuestras acciones implican que creemos que Jesús es solo para ciertas personas? ¿Nuestra actitud hacia algunas personas implica que pensamos que «están demasiado perdidas» o que «nunca se convertirán en cristianas»?

 Jesús vino a salvar a los perdidos, los enfermos y los quebrantados de este mundo. ¡No olvidemos que eso nos incluye a nosotros! Es más fácil compartir y amar a las personas cercanas a nosotros. Pero, ¿te está llamando Dios a acercarte a alguien que Él ha puesto en tu vida y que puede ser un poco más difícil? Un compañero de trabajo, un vecino, un amigo o un familiar con quien tal vez tengas una relación tensa.

 Mi oración esta mañana es que tengamos una fe que nos lleve más allá de un evangelio de clase media. Que reconozcamos, creamos y actuemos en el verdadero poder del evangelio, que puede buscar y salvar a todos los que están perdidos. Jesús mismo fue más allá de todas las normas sociales. Oro para que nosotros también lo hagamos.
