Sermon Study Questions 1.4.26

Icebreaker Questions
1. What are your thoughts on New Year's Resolutions? Do you have any for this upcoming year?
2. What has been your experience with reading 'The Law' portion of the Bible? Do you struggle with certain aspects of it? Is there any other genre of Scripture that you want to learn to read better?
Diving Deeper
1. Read Exodus 20:1-17. Which commandments listed have to do with our relationship to God, and which of them have to do with our relationship with others? How do you feel you stack up against the Law? (Read Matthew 5:21-30 if you feel good about yourself)
2. Read Matthew 5:17-18. What does it mean that Jesus 'fulfills' the Law? How does this impact the Christian life?
3. Read John 14:15. What does Jesus say that we'll do if we love Him? How does love and obedience work together?
Life Application
1. The Law is meant to serve as a mirror - revealing our sin and desperate need for a Savior. How has God's Law revealed to you (personally) the darkness and evil of your heart, and how are you responding to that?
2. The Law is also meant to serve as a compass - a guiding light that helps reorient our lives to live in alignment with God's Will. How is God calling you to live in obedience this new year? What active steps are you taking to become more Christlike in thought, word, and deed?
