Sermon Study Questions 4.6.25
My Story
1. What is something that you tend to judge others for unfairly? Why do you think it is that we find it much easier to judge others than recognize and admit our own faults?
2. If you had to pick one area of your life that you want to be more open and honest about, what would that be?
Going Deeper
1. Read Romans 2:1-5. How does recognizing God’s righteous judgment towards all of us change the way we judge other people?
2. Read Romans 2:6-16. What does Paul teach us about the moral law in this passage? How does this text help us recognize that God doesn’t simply care about our outward appearance?
3. Read Romans 2:17-29. What does this passage teach us about living an authentic life as a follower of Jesus? What sorts of things should characterize a “heart transformation” for a Christian?
Taking it Home
1. There are three main ways we often try to escape feeling guilty about ourselves. 1 - Being blind to our own faults. 2 - Conveniently forgetting about what I’ve done wrong. 3 - Cleverly renaming my wrongs to make them sound less offensive. Of these three, which one would you say you struggle with the most? Now, how can you practically combat that this week?
2. What “mask” do you need to drop today? How can you more authentically seek to follow Jesus in a deep personal relationship?
