Icebreaker Questions

1. What's something you've owned that completely fell apart much sooner than it was supposed to? What's the cheapest thing you've ever bought that ended up costing you more than expected?

2. What's harder for you: waiting, uncertainty, criticism, or disappointment?

Diving Deeper

1. Read Philippians 1:27.  Why do you think Paul begins with the phrase "whatever happens?"  Which circumstances most tempt you to act differently than what the gospel teaches?

2. Read Philippians 1:28.  What kinds of opposition or pressure do Christians commonly face today?  In light of that - how can you stand firm?

3. Read Philippians 1:29-30.  Why do you think Christians often struggle with the idea that suffering can have purpose?

Life Application Questions

1. What circumstance are you currently allowing to affect your joy more than it should?  What Gospel truth do you need to hold onto in order to grow in defiant joy?

2. What is one practical way you can strengthen unity within the church this week?  How can we as Hessel Church come together?
