Sermon Study Questions 8.24.25
Icebreaker Questions
1. What is your general outlook on "governing authorities?" Are you one that naturally wants to respect authority or rebel against it? Talk about the balance between respecting authority while disagreeing with it.
2. What’s one “uniform” or outfit you’ve worn that immediately identified you (sports jersey, work gear, school colors)? How might “putting on Christ” be like wearing a uniform that shows who you belong to?
Diving Deeper Questions
1. Read Romans 13:1. Paul says there is no authority except from God. How does that challenge the way we usually think about leaders we disagree with?
2. Read Romans 13:11. Paul says, “It’s time to wake up.” What are some ways Christians can fall asleep spiritually?
3. Read Romans 13:13–14. Paul warns against living in secret sin and calls us to walk in the light. How does knowing God already sees everything both challenge and encourage us?
Life Application Questions
1. Where in your life are you most tempted to resist authority—at work, at home, in the community? What would it look like to trust God by respecting that authority this week?
2. Imagine your life livestreamed for 24 hours. What would you want to change so that others see more of Jesus and less of you?
