Icebreaker Questions

1. What is something that you get emotionally invested in and even confrontational about that is of very little importance?  (ex: sports, food, movies, etc.)

2. What are some things that we tend to get "up in arms" about in the context of the Church that we blow out of proportion?  Why is seeking unity so hard sometimes?

Diving Deeper

1. Read Romans 14:1-4.  Paul warns against quarreling over opinions.  What's the difference between essential truths of the faith and disputable matters?

2. Read Romans 14:10-12.  How does the fact that we will all stand before God and give an account change the way we treat other people?

3. Read Romans 14:19-23.  What does Paul say that we should pursue in our disagreements?  How can we seek to do that in daily life?

Life Application

1. This week, how can you pursue peace and mutual upbuilding in your family, small group, or workplace?  (Be specific: a text, conversation, apology, etc.)

2. If someone looked at the way that you handle disagreements, would they see more of a desire to "win the argument" or "win the person?"  How can you take a step of obedience to shift toward a more Christlike approach?
